Sound insulation is necessary to provide rooms offering to their occupants an appropriate acoustic comfort, with respect to which ITS offers studies and markets works.
Sound insulation is necessary to obtain the desirable acoustic comfort in buildings |
In the field of construction, whether new buildings or renovations, sound insulation is subject to regulations which often motivate the recourse to ITS.
In France, the weighted standardized level difference between rooms DnT,A is an indicator of performance (expressed in dB) which must be equal to or greater than imposed limits depending on the nature of the building and depending on the use of the rooms considered.
Sound insulation studies and works in constructions subject to the Order of 30 June 1999 on the acoustic characteristics of residential buildings, where the weighted standardized level difference between rooms is regulated
- for an emission room such as a room in a dwelling other than individual garages, a common circulation inside the building, an individual garage of a dwelling or a collective garage, a business premises, excluding collective garages
- for a reception room such as a main room, a kitchen or a shower room
Depending on the combination of emission room and reception room, the performance indicator in terms of sound insulation explicitly required varies from 37 to 58 dB.
Sound insulation studies and works in establishments subject to the Order of 25 April 2003 on the limitation of noise, where weighted standardized level difference between rooms is regulated
- In educational institutions :
- for an emission room such as a teaching room, a room for practical activities, for administration, a medical room, an infirmary, a low noise workshop, a kitchen, a closed gathering room, a meeting room , sanitary facilities, stairwell, horizontal circulation, closed cloakroom, music room, multipurpose room, sports hall, dining room, noisy workshop
- for a reception room such as teaching room, a room for practical activities, administration, a library, a documentation and information center (DIC), a music room, a meeting room, a teachers' room, a noisy workshop, a medical room, an infirmary, a multipurpose room, a dining room
Depending on the combination of emission room and reception room, the performance indicator in terms of sound insulation explicitly required varies from 30 to 55 dB.
- In health facilities :
- for an emission room such as a place of lodging and care, a room of examinations and consultations, a medical and nursing office, a waiting room, a room of operations or obstetrics, a work room, an internal circulation, or other premises
- for a reception room such as an operations or obstetric room, a work room, a room for accommodation and care, an examination and consultation room, a waiting room, a medical and care office and other premises where patients may be present
Depending on the combination of emission room and reception room, the performance indicator in terms of sound insulation explicitly required varies from 32 to 47 dB.
- In hotels :
- for an emission room such as a neighboring room, a bathroom of another room, an internal circulation, an office, a restplace for the personnel, a closed cloakroom, a reception hall, a reading room, a meeting room, a workshop, a bar, a shop, a kitchen, a garage, a car parking, a closed delivery area, a gymnasium, an indoor swimming pool, a restaurant, collective toilets, a television room, a launderette, a local garbage, a casino, a reception room without amplified sound, a health club, a games room, a disco, a dance hall
- for a reception room such as a bedroom or a bathroom
Depending on the combination of emission room and reception room, the performance indicator in terms of sound insulation explicitly required varies from 38 to 60 dB. In addition, there are regulatory provisions regarding exposure to aerodrome noise.
Sound insulation studies and works for all buildings
ITS markets studies and works for sound insulation for all buildings, new or renovated.
Studies relating to sound insulation offered by ITS may include:
- acoustic metrology; standard NF S 31-057 – Acoustics – Verification of the acoustic quality of buildings (October 1982) or other booklets can constitute reference documents for the in situ measurement of performance in terms of sound insulation
- calculations:
- determination, from the results of measurements per frequency band, of unique performance indicators for comparison with targeted values
- evaluation, by computer calculations, of physical quantities related to the transmission of sound through partitions ;sizing of multilayer acoustic structures and silencers
- prediction of sound levels in premises, in relation to their performance in terms of noise limitation
Works relating to sound insulation offered by ITS may include:
- constructions
- improvement of existing building ; namely, ITS can perform acoustic measurements and, if necessary, then propose and market solutions to improve the situation, if it is unsatisfactory in terms of sound insulation e.g. due to a non-compliance.
Depending on the context, the construction systems covered by the studies and works marketed by ITS in terms of sound insulation are masonry (concrete, concrete block, brick), plaster-based (plates, tiles), wood, metal, with glass (and they often include insulation e.g. mineral or polyester wool, foams):
- opaque and fixed construction elements e.g. walls, partitions, floors, roofs
- glazing
- doors
- noise reduction devices for apertures i.e. silencers
For all of them, ITS human resources have extensive expertise, whether it concerns the envelope of a building or its interior layout, including the enclosure of noisy equipment such as those usually installed in technical rooms (e.g. pumps, compressors, motors, gensets) or for the limitation of noise from Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) appliances e.g. air conditioners, heat pumps, refrigeration units, aerocondensers.
In addition, ITS also intervenes in sports halls, dance halls, restaurants, offices and the context of industrial building projects.
