ITS participated in the limitation of industrial noise in a power plant in South Asia, based on the use of a combustion turbine (with a power of around 400 MW in simple cycle), making soundproofing necessary:
- the turbine itself
- a compartment for the load
- a generator
- a plenum for an air intake duct and for an exhaust duct
- a lubrication compartment
The first 3 aforementioned sub-assemblies were entirely enclosed using ventilated acoustic enclosures (each one: with 4 walls and a roof), while the last 2 aforementioned sub-assemblies were equipped with noise barriers walls (differing from closed enclosures in the absence of a roof and forced ventilation systems).
Design and construction for the limitation of industrial noise in a power plant
The design and construction for the limitation of industrial noise in a power generation plant included in particular:
- the study of structure: it was a question of allowing the realization of metal works of very large dimensions, by taking into account the unfavorable site conditions (potentially extreme climatic conditions, seismic risks), moreover by ensuring the stability during the dismantling of some parts (with significant areas) during operations of maintenance or repair
- the acoustic study: to respect near the walls of structures dedicated to soundproofing, sound levels as low as 85 dB(A) at 1 meter (what is significant when some noise sources have a weighted overall sound power level greater than 135 dB(A)), conditioning both:
- noise protection for power plant personnel
- neighborhood quietness
- the aeraulic study: to ensure the renewal of air and the evacuation of the calorific power (very important) dissipated inside the ventilated enclosures
- electrical study: for components such as fans, sensors
It was therefore foreseen a metal frame (steel) and:
- for fixed or easily removable parts, by sub-assemblies: industrial soundproofing panels with an absorbing face (modular)
- for employees access: (rotating) acoustic doorsets with, for translucent parts (with glazing guaranteeing residual safety in the event of accidental breakage): acoustic window sets
In addition, the openings provided for the air inlet and outlet (the latter: with fans) of the ventilated acoustic enclosures have been equipped with with ventilation silencers to attenuate transmitted noise and to ensure the necessary homogeneity of acoustic insulation).
All the elements making up the various ventilated acoustic enclosures and noise barriers for the limitation of industrial noise in this power plant were subject to a short production cycle, with selection of first choice raw materials and components, meticulous welding and assembly, rigorous control and careful packaging.
The shipment was carried out using shipping containers, nothing should be missing and everything should be numbered and listed impeccably to allow, on site, installation by labor (recruited locally by the end Customer), who does not always have special skills in the field of industrialized construction (well-prepared documentation, with complete and unequivocal nomenclatures, and with clear assembly instructions counts, in this kind of circumstance).
As always in the context of such international projects with considerable stakes, this project was successfully completed by ITS and its business partners, who are very experienced in limiting industrial noise in power generation plants by means of construction of works such as those illustrated in the picture below.
