The protection from noise of persons by the means of a cabin (for soundproofing / soundproofed) is an action frequently implemented in the context of noise control:
- protection of workers against noise: with respect to the noise of machines. This technique creates a (physical) separation between two spaces:
- the one inside which the noise source is not: it is generally desirable that the noise reduction device is absorbing (in order to not increase the level of sound and in order to improve speech intelligibilty) on that side of the separation (i.e. on the side where the persons to be protected are)
- the other within which the noise source is: it is generally desirable that the noise reduction device (in addition to have a significant surface density) is continuous on that side of the separation (i.e. airtight) or otherwise be fitted with silencers
- acoustic comfort in buildings: with respect to the noise of musicians. This technique creates a (physical) separation between two spaces:
- the one inside which is the noise source (i.e. the musician): it is generally desirable that the noise reduction device is absorbing (in order to not increase the level of sound and in order to obtain a reverberation time compatible with the considered musical activity) on that side of the separation (i.e. inside the cabin)
- the other within which the noise source is not (that space to be protected from the impact of considered noise emissions): it is generally desirable that the noise reduction device (in addition to have a significant surface density) is continuous on that side of the separation (i.e. airtight) or otherwise be fitted with silencers
