Besides grinders, machining centers, waste management and material conveyors systems of all kinds, they also usefully house boilermaking, metal construction, mechanics, plastics processing and also packaging activities (e.g. bottling) as well as test benches.
Inside, the sound-absorbing materials used (most often: integrated into the panels forming the vertical walls and the roof themselves) make it possible to limit the amplification of sound levels (reducing - all things being equal - transmission of noise towards the outside) and reduce reverberation to meet regulatory requirements for acoustic correction of work premises (in France: based on the decrease in sound level by doubling the distance from the source)[1].
The sound level outside such sound-attenuating devices is generally well below the lower exposure values of workers to the noise triggering the action (in equivalent continuous level and in peak level) [1] and the sound levels in the environment are generally well below the limits set by regulations to avoid noise pollution for the neighborhood [2] (depending on the case: emergence limit value during the day or night, absence of marked tone, sound pressure level to do not exceed at the property line).

They are usually made of coated metallic soundprrofing panels with an insulation made of mineral fiber (walls, roof and if needed: floor) and equipped with painted metallic acoustic doors (rotating or sliding) and of acoustic windows with safety glass.Some of those construction elements may have a sound reduction index Rw that can reach 52 dB as a standard (a higher performance can be obtained by the means of special constructions).
